About Amanda

Amanda D. Mahoney, M.A., is a private practitioner in northern Colorado.  Her areas of passion and expertise are- self-care and wellness, grief and loss, and marriage and family therapy.  Amanda’s approach to therapy has a strong emphasis on a compassionate mindset, a solution focused, structural approach while also utilizing evidenced based cognitive behavioral therapy. Although grief and loss is most commonly defined through death and dying, Amanda firmly believes the grief symptoms and emotional presentation most commonly associate with grief and loss can also accompany life changing events like medical diagnosis, divorce, loss of work, or even relocation.

Compassion Cultivation Training© (CCT™) is a educational program focused on cultivating compassion for yourself and others. CCT™ was developed at Stanford University and is now housed at the Compassion Institute in northern California under the Executive Director leadership of Thupten Jinpa- main translator for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, scholar and author. Amanda was excited to bring this program to Colorado for the first time. As a Senior Certified CCT™ teacher, Amanda teaches the 8 week trainings throughout northern Colorado and online through the Compassion Institute. Amanda has been practicing CCT™ and its principles since 2013.

As a direct result of operating from a more compassionate mindset, Amanda began expanding the scope of her professional resources to wellness at work. Having personally benefited from the value of a compassionate mindset in creating sustainability and resiliency in her private practice as a grief therapist, Amanda began assisting businesses in areas of improving company culture, self-care, and creating a common language in the workplace. She has experience providing hospital-based, home-based, school-based, and office-based therapy to individuals, families, and children and uses these experiences to understand individuals and teams in a corporate setting-coaching them through in-house residency, workshops and speaking engagements. Amanda has worked with companies and organizations such as Poudre School District, Colorado State University, Columbine Health, National Park Services, National Nurse Educator Conference, and International Association of Emergency Dispatch in these capacities.

Outside of her career, Amanda loves spending time with her family and friends- staying active and traveling as often as possible. She grew up in New England and spent almost a decade and a half in Southern California.
